The Science of Reading. Enough talking. Just teach me.

Hey there! Samantha here, the founder of Ignite & Educate and the author of Ignite and Educate’s blog, The Reading Teacher’s Teacher. I am thrilled to write this first blog because just like many of you, I was a classroom teacher who wanted to be the best reading teacher I could be. It was really important to me. As a former teacher and a licensed reading specialist turned literacy coach, and now university professor of reading, I have been in your shoes and continue to work with teachers in those same shoes.

Do any of these resonate with you?

“I’m embarrassed; I don’t know what to do when it comes to teaching reading. And I sure don’t want to admit that to anyone.”

“I’m not sure I’m even teaching reading the right way.”

“I don’t exactly understand what the Science of Reading is but I want to because everyone is talking about it.”

We hear you. And, rest assured, you are not alone! As the well known Louisa Moats coined, “Teaching Reading is Rocket Science.”  All of us at Ignite & Educate are excited for the launch of our blog, The Reading Teacher’s Teacher. We simplify the scientific research in reading education for busy educators. We help teachers teach reading.

Our goal of this blog is to help teachers teach reading. Today, that means helping teachers understand the Science of Reading.  Before you teach it. You have to learn it.

We are not here to convince you how important the Science of Reading is. We are here for those teachers who get it, who get that the Science of Reading is something that needs to be understood. We are there for those who are ready to learn, especially for those who are afraid to learn it. It may not be easy but it will be worth it.

Let’s get started.
